Reaching deep

Not all countries see Christmas and New Year as annual holiday periods, but most of the world follow the annual calendar and so seeing the back end of the current year and welcoming in a new year is an event in itself.

I had the great fortune this week to spend a very brief time speaking more causally to some folk with whom I work. During some solitude of my own I reflected on the conversations which ranged from funny to serious discussions and it just reminded me that we have all walked a path in life which has delivered us life experiences of all sorts shapes and sizes. For instance of the 5 or 6 people in the group, there were 4 of us who have been forced to deal with close loved ones dying of cancer. This over and above the other trials they have fought off to maintain modest lives. Each one of then however have continued as a priority to prepare a way and offer the absolute best they can for their living offspring.

I was so incredibly encouraged, humbled by my time with these special people, but was also re-awakened by the fact that we plough on through life taking so much for granted. Life itself in fact.

I encourage you wherever you are at this time of year and whatever you are doing, take time to stop and reach deep into the lives of others around and as much as the permit you to do so, and see that while we often think of ourselves as hard done by and facing insurmountable challenges we doubt we will overcome, there are those who in spite of having less tangibly have overcome so much more that we have and have more in life value for it.
